About the Role & Team:
Reporting directly to the General Manager Governance & Risk, this leadership role is responsible for providing strategic leadership and support to the organisation to ensure risk management is seamlessly incorporated into business plans and daily activities. By embedding a proactive risk culture and continuous improvement mindset, this role strengthens AEMO Services’ resilience, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability and ensures AEMO Services is always compliant and delivering best practice.
About the Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
- Lead and mentor a small team of risk professionals, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives
- Drive continual improvement of the organisation’s Risk Appetite Statement (RAS), metrics, and tolerances
- Work closely with business units to ensure consistent adoption of risk management frameworks & enhance risk oversight
- Provide strategic risk insights and prepare detailed reports on enterprise risk management practices for management and board, ensuring data-driven, risk-based decision-making
- Lead the embedment and maturity of the three lines model and ensure appropriate oversight of Line 1 risk responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior leaders to align risk management strategies with business objectives, and ensure risk is effectively managed and leveraged as a business enabler
- In collaboration with the compliance and assurance team, ensure regulatory compliance while delivering pragmatic, commercially focused risk solutions
- Implement robust monitoring and reporting systems for risk metrics
- Influence and drive cultural change, embedding risk awareness into daily operations and long-term strategy
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities for enhancement leveraging emerging trends and technologies
Desired Skills and Experience
About You & the Role Requirements:
- Proven senior leadership experience in a similar risk role, ideally within a regulated environment
- Strong knowledge or experience in developing risk management frameworks, standards and best practices in risk and controls management
- Experience in monitoring and reporting on the adequacy and effectiveness of the risk and control environment (including emerging risks, risk exposures and risk appetite)
- Strong ability to work cross-functionally to ensure risk and compliance work with, not against, business objectives
- Demonstrated people leadership skills in coaching and mentoring a team to create an accountable, engaged and high performing culture in alignment with organizational values
- An understanding of the regulatory landscape impacting the Australian energy sector is desirable
- Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving expertise, with the proven ability to navigate complex risk landscapes
- Ability to influence and engage with senior stakeholders and point of escalation/primary point of contact for all risk-related inquiries
