Due to the company experiencing rapid growth, SEL seeks a highly motivated Automation Engineer with previous experience in the design of control systems and automation solutions with the ability to undertake testing and commissioning activities for a project engineering position based in Melbourne.
Reporting to the Group Manager, the role will require a driven and enthusiastic individual to work on technical review, preparation of proposals, engineering design, ensuring cost-effective solutions, dealing with the client, and working closely with the Project Manager for successful delivery of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Experience developing control systems and HMI using Modbus TCP, IEC61850, DNP, and other various industry communication protocols.
- Extensive experience developing control systems design documentation covering functional specifications, control philosophy, I/O lists, cause and effect, and scopes of work.
- Analyze technical specifications and create detailed control system/automation designs, bill of materials, and job estimates (proposals).
- Undertake factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and commissioning at various remote customer sites within Australia and potentially in the Asia Pacific region.
- Managing delivery of projects to time, cost, and quality standards.
- Work within project teams to meet project deliverables.
- Mentoring younger engineers as a technical lead.
- Support the sales team with the preparation of project proposals.
To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- 5+ years relevant application experience.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar.
- Experience in the field of automation within the power industry.
- Experience in PLC and SCADA system design and development.
- Experience in Network design and development.
- A high level of knowledge of Industrial communications (IEC-61850, DNP3, Modbus), Ethernet systems, Protocol analyzers, Industry SCADA practices, and Network design and development.
- A high level of knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming language.
- Familiarity in hosting and infrastructure virtualization using VMware software.
- Willing to work extended periods at remote customer sites.
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills and client-focused.
- Cyber security experience in firewalls (functionality and implementation), identifying network and system vulnerabilities, and other relevant capabilities.
- Knowledge in using industry-standard network monitoring and management tools (Splunk, Prime, etc.).
- Knowledge of SEL products.
