Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sheetmetal Worker to join our expanding team. This role is ideal for a skilled tradesperson who is confident working across industrial ducting, custom sheetmetal fabrication, welding, structural installations, and on site machinery projects. You will contribute directly to delivering durable, high quality metal solutions that meet client specifications and industry standards.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine materials, fabrication methods, tools, and equipment required.
• Select, prepare, cut, and shape sheet metal (including stainless steel, aluminium, mild and galvanised steel) to manufacture components such as ductwork, structural supports, platforms, and custom assemblies.
• Fabricate industrial ducting systems in compliance with SMACNA and AS 4254 standards, including rectangular, round, and HVAC duct systems.
• Join and assemble components using welding (spot, continuous, coded), riveting, soldering, brazing and other metal joining techniques.
• Produce and install custom sheetmetal products such as transitions, bends, offsets, Y pieces, enclosures, cabinets, benches, platforms, and structural supports.
• Conduct finishing work — including polishing, filing, sanding, and cleaning — to ensure high quality final products.
• Support on site machinery installation, maintenance, and adjustments as needed across project locations in Victoria.
• Work within AB Downs’ project management framework, complying with safety plans, risk assessments, work method statements, and quality standards throughout all phases of fabrication and installation.
Qualifications:
• Certificate III or IV in Sheetmetal Work, Engineering, or a relevant trade qualification.
Skills and Requirements:
• Minimum 1 year experience as Sheetmetal Worker or in a similar role
• Proven experience in sheetmetal fabrication or metalworking.
• Competence in welding, metal cutting, assembly, and finishing techniques.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery safely and accurately.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
