About the role
Based at our Newstead office, the Principal Advisor – Fatigue & Human Factors will play a critical role in leading and managing the implementation of initiatives to improve the management of fatigue risks and safety outcomes in the heavy vehicle industry.
Key responsibilities of this role are:

Operating as part of the broader strategic policy team, the Principal Fatigue/Human Factors Advisor will engage internally across divisions and externally with industry leaders and research institutions to develop contemporary guidance material and risk-based regulation.
Develop guidelines, rules, regulations, procedures and/or instructions relating to Fatigue/Human Factors for NHVR staff and industry.
Develop specific subject matter advice to support informed decision making on a range of legislative, strategic and operational policy matters relating to Fatigue/Human Factors.
Develop, implement, and review policy instructions, including practical guidance, resources and tools relating to Fatigue/Human Factors to improve safety management.
Lead planning, coordination, and development of professional advice and strategic planning on specific subject matters for Fatigue/Human Factors.
Manage projects, ensuring completion within statutory, regulatory, and financial obligations.

About You
To be successful in this role you will possess:

Proven ability to engage systems thinking and operate at a strategic level.
Thorough knowledge (or demonstrated ability to quickly acquire a thorough knowledge) of fatigue and human factor issues as they relate to the heavy vehicle industry.
Demonstrated a high level of professional expert knowledge in work related fatigue/human factors, particularly relating to driving and/or shift work.
Tertiary qualifications in Fatigue, Human Factors, Psychology, Safety, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience (highly regarded).
Knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of Heavy Vehicle National Law, the heavy vehicle regulatory environment and inter-relationships between state and territory governments and the NHVR (highly regarded).
