About the office

The Information Technology Office plays an integral role in the success of the University ensuring the national provision of technology solutions that enable Learning & Teaching, Research and Administration across our University.

The Information Technology Office embeds an operating model with a view to enabling a greater level of engagement across the University, proactively serving as trusted advisors in the identification and prioritisation of continuous improvement initiatives and the delivery of digital technology change, whilst ensuring the ongoing availability of the IT environment.

About the role

The Head of Cyber Security provides leadership to the Cyber Security Operations team to ensure effective operation and service delivery by the team. The role proactively manages the risks to the University's digital assets and data to protect against internal and external threats. The Head of Cyber Security provides the University community with expert advice on cyber security protection, detection, response, and recovery and is responsible for management of cyber security incidents as well as for implementation of preventative controls, keeping the University's digital environment safe. The Head of Cyber Security will work closely with strategic partners for the delivery of security services and assist the director in the development of future cyber strategies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead incident response and management efforts in case of security breaches or incidents, including coordinating responses, investigations and recovery efforts.
  • Lead IAM policies and procedures, ensuring that identity governance aligns with regulatory requirements and internal standards. This includes overseeing access controls, ensuring proper provisioning, modification, and de-provisioning of user identities and conducting regular audits and reviews.
  • Work with external providers and internal teams to ensure the delivery of key security services including, vulnerability management, backup, and disaster recovery.
  • Manage external Security Operations Center (SOC), including daily operations, escalation, incident response processes, monitoring & reporting, and supplier management.
  • Ensure enhancements, remediations and risk mitigation activities meet the requirements and timelines identified by the business or other regulatory bodies.
Qualifications, skills & experience
  • Postgraduate qualification in information technology or a related field and extensive relevant knowledge, experience and skills, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Proven track record of at least five years in progressively responsible information security leadership roles.
  • Professional security qualification (e.g. CISM or CISSP) (desirable).
  • Experience in Dev Sec Ops, CI/CD and Iaa S will be highly regarded.
