The Nursing Director (Perioperative & Ambulatory Services) supports strategic and operational priorities, promotes continuous improvement, and ensures effective coordination of nursing services across their portfolios which include Acute Pain Services, Central Sterilising Department, Operating Theatres, Theatre Assistants, Preadmission Clinic, Day Surgery & Perioperative Overnight Stay Unit, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, Elective Surgery Services and Surgical Outpatient Services.

Cairns Hospital is the largest major hospital in Far North Queensland, caring for patients from the Mossman/Port Douglas to Tully in the south and out to Croydon in the west.
Our population is 260,000 with First Nations people making up 14% of the region's population. Cairns Hospital provides a range of specialist outpatient, inpatient, and emergency services from its CBD site on the Cairns Esplanade. The hospital has 506 inpatient beds and 53 emergency department treatment spaces, 16 ICU beds, 22 special care nursery beds, 48 inpatient mental health beds and 25 maternity beds.

About your role:
The Nursing Director provides strategic advice and guidance to the Director ICWP and the CHDONM to promote a high standard of professional practice and achieve patient focussed outcomes. In addition to this, the role provides professional guidance, mentorship, leadership and support to relevant nursing and midwifery professionals.
The Nursing Director is responsible for portfolios as allocated through the services. This position is accountable for leadership, innovation and excellence to inform current and future practice. In collaboration with the Clinical Directors the position will provide service direction, coordination, strategic planning, efficient and effective use of human and material resources and risk management.
In collaboration with the DONM Rural and Remote Services, Rural facility DONs, Medical Superintendents and Clinical Directors, provides expert guidance and knowledge across the CHHHS regarding their relevant service areas.
