Our Applied Science practice leverages a unique combination of technologies and expertise to engineer practical solutions to problems of national and international importance. We apply expertise in solid and fluid dynamics, materials science, acoustics, risk assessments, and computational simulation methods to solve complex problems. We perform research, mathematical modeling, software development, and design to manage risks to life safety in military platforms and installations, ships and submarines, critical infrastructure, tall buildings, public facilities, industrial and petrochemical plants, and automotive and airborne vehicles.
Our team based in Melbourne is primarily focused on supporting the Australian Department of Defence and Defence industry portfolio in enhancing the survivability of Maritime, Land and Air Platforms. We also offer complimentary services in our Protective Design and Security portfolio for a range of government clients covering the design and protection of infrastructure. The Melbourne team operates a unique range of Test and Evaluation (T& E) capabilities including our in-house Medium Weight Shock Testing Machine (JASSO) and operation of Defence’s heavy weight shock barge for Maritime systems qualification. The team specialises in a range of advanced analysis Computation Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) services in the areas of Blast, Shock and Ballistics as well as conducting a range of consulting work around the survivability of Defence Platforms and infrastructure.
The Role
We have an opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join our Applied Science team, based in Melbourne, Victoria. The role will primarily support our Defence and Protective Design and Security portfolios, with opportunities to support our Safety, Risk and Analysis team for hazardous industries operating out of Perth. This will involve developing and utilizing skills in a combination of advanced numerical analysis and computational methods (FEA and CFD) as well as supporting test and evaluation activities of military platforms and equipment, which may include testing against blast, shock, vibration and thermal flux. Applicants with software engineering skills would also receive the opportunity to develop and utilise these skills.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking engineering and design analysis using Finite Element Analysis and Computation Fluid Dynamics codes for a variety of government, industrial and laboratory projects.
- Supporting test and evaluation programs for the certification of military platforms and equipment.
- Researching and interpreting applicable codes and standards.
- Contributing to advancing the state of the art in our community of practice.
Requirements
We are looking for someone who has recently graduated with a minimum 4-year Bachelors, Masters or Ph D degree, preferably in Engineering or a related major who is keen to apply their knowledge in a fast-paced consulting environment.
The ideal candidate will be a team player with the ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of engineering principles. Familiarity/experience with advanced analysis (FEA and/or CFD), mechanical testing and software development would be beneficial.
The ideal applicant needs to be an Australian Citizen and have the ability to achieve and maintain an Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
