About the role:

We are seeking a highly organised and motivated Senior Legal Counsel to work closely alongside the co-founders and other members of the legal team.

This is a hands-on and high-impact role where you will play a critical part in supporting the business across a broad range of legal functions. You will work closely with internal stakeholders across departments and external legal advisors, ensuring that Slip’s legal and commercial interests are protected while enabling the business to scale efficiently and strategically.

Your key responsibilities will include:

1. Intellectual Property and Brand Protection

You will support the global management, enforcement, and strategic development of Slip’s portfolio of trademarks, designs, patents, copyrights, and other intellectual property rights. Your responsibilities will include assisting the team in:

• Managing the registration, renewal, and maintenance of Slip’s IP rights in existing and emerging markets;
• Leading enforcement actions against unauthorised resellers and third parties infringing on Slip’s IP rights, including online takedowns and litigation support;
• Advising on IP clearance, risk mitigation, and brand alignment for new product launches, marketing campaigns, and packaging updates;
• Proactively monitoring brand protection risks and opportunities.

2. Commercial Contracting

You will draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a wide variety of commercial contracts, including:

• Supplier, manufacturer, and logistics agreements;
• Software and IT services contracts;
• Marketing, media buying, and digital platform agreements;
• Influencer, ambassador, and endorsement agreements;
• Consultancy, professional services, and non-disclosure agreements.

3. Advertising, Marketing and Consumer Law

• Provide clear, practical legal advice on marketing claims, promotional campaigns, and content to ensure compliance with global advertising standards and consumer protection laws.

4. Regulatory and Compliance

• Advise on product and packaging compliance, including mandatory labelling and regulatory requirements in all current and target markets;
• Support regulatory compliance strategies in response to evolving requirements (e.g., extended producer responsibility laws and sustainability-related disclosures).

5. Privacy, Data Protection and Cyber Security

• Support the implementation and maintenance of privacy compliance frameworks across multiple jurisdictions (including under the GDPR, CCPA, and Australian Privacy Act);

6. Insurance Management

• Maintain oversight of key insurance policies, ensure appropriate coverage across business operations, and manage renewals, claims processes, and broker relationships.

7. External Counsel Management

• Brief, instruct, and manage external legal advisors globally to ensure cost-effective and commercially aligned legal support, while maintaining oversight and quality control.
• Assist in the implementation of AI tools in the operation of the legal team;
• Ensure the refinement of legal operations, including the development of templates, playbooks, and knowledge-sharing tools;
• Identify opportunities to streamline legal processes, increase automation, and improve turnaround times to better support business stakeholders.

About you:

We are looking for a self-motivated, efficient and hard-working Senior Legal Counsel who wants to be an effective and collaborative member of our legal team. The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification;
• A minimum of 7 years' post-qualification experience gained at a mid- or top-tier law firm;
• Expertise in intellectual property law, including demonstrated experience in the development, protection, enforcement, and commercialisation of global IP portfolios across multiple jurisdictions (highly desirable);
• Ability to work onsite at our Global Head Office in Brisbane, Australia;
• Proven ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver results independently and as part of a team;
• Experience with retail brands, FMCG, privacy, or technology law (desirable but not essential);
• In-house legal experience is highly desirable;
• Strong drafting skills with demonstrable experience preparing complex, bespoke contracts and agreements independently;
• Adaptable, proactive, and solutions-focused with a professional and positive attitude;
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills;
• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage a high volume of emails and multiple, concurrent deadlines.
