Principal Ecologist / Associate Director – Bedford/ London/Woodbridge (Suffolk) – Full-time/Part-time
We are seeking an ambitious, experienced, and knowledgeable individual to lead and develop our ecology team across various projects. The role can range from Principal Ecologist to Associate Director level and is ideally based in our London office, with opportunities to develop the ecology team there. Alternatively, it can be based in our Bedford or Woodbridge offices, with occasional travel to London.
Role
The successful candidate will mentor and lead a team involved in tasks such as:
- Preliminary Ecological Appraisals / Ecological Impact Assessments / EIA chapters
- Protected species surveys, assessments, and translocations
- Bat mitigation licensing
- Biodiversity Net Gain calculations
Projects are diverse, including residential developments, educational institutions, renewable energy, commercial, and agricultural projects across the UK, mainly focusing on the Midlands and South-East. The company promotes environmentally sustainable practices in all aspects of work.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in the team's typical work and have experience in managing and mentoring staff. Essential requirements include:
- Relevant degree and Full Membership of CIEEM
- Understanding of all levels of the planning system
- Efficiency and diligence in meeting deadlines
- Strong organizational and management skills
- Excellent written communication skills, experience in technical report writing, and clear presentation of findings
- Licenses for surveys and mitigation (bat mitigation license preferred)
- FISC Level 3 minimum
- Effective communication and negotiation skills for liaising with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders
- Ability to provide ecologically sound solutions to clients
- Full UK driving license and access to a car
- Legal right to work in the UK
