MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The DCM Origination in Oceania looks to deliver innovative Loan and Bond financing solutions to borrowers and sponsors taking into account a broadening investor universe including bank, bond, institutional, Samurai and Asian Term Loan investors. With a focus on DCM solutions for Project Finance clients you will work closely with MUFG’s leading Project Finance team, the other Regional and Global functions within DCM, the GCIB coverage and product teams, external borrowers and loan and bond investors. Provide support to senior team members to develop a sustainable client focused primary DCM business for MUFG's clients. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Maintain a comprehensive understanding of investor and PF sponsor requirements in terms of risk appetite, structure and pricing in order to assess and take underwriting risk and ensure a successful syndication of all PF transactions. Maintain strong understanding of PF fundamentals (structure, financial model, due diligence, documentation). Production and maintenance of high-quality market research on pricing, participations, deal structures and investor activity as required for tailor-made client presentations, pitches, underwriting/stretch hold applications as well as thought leadership. Provide support to senior origination team members in opportunity identification, financial analysis, pricing and liquidity insights, as well as syndication/execution strategy. Oversee preparation of underwriting applications, deal screening support memos and other internal requirements to facilitate seamless deal execution. Play a lead role in “stretch hold” transactions where MUFG actively manages its PF assets to select investors post financial close. This covers the deal origination phase (i.e. determining pricing and appetite) through to distribution (client and investor interaction, Q&A and settlement). Drive various DCM project finance syndicate initiatives to deliver on the team’s revenue goals, including evaluating bespoke deal opportunities, new distribution pathways and emerging business lines (e.g. ratings advisory, project bonds). Collaborate with MUFG distribution teams and other regional and global syndicate teams to obtain latest market insights and drive MUFG’s O&D strategy. Work in partnership with colleagues across all regions (within both DCM and Project Finance) to develop and broaden the overall relationship with core clients by providing high quality support and product interface with regards to capital markets financing opportunities. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and build relationships throughout MUFG to establish a peer network to ensure appropriate engagement and support to develop, secure and maximise product opportunities, gather relevant information and help to ensure effective inter-departmental collaboration. Develop and maintain effective relationship with counterparts in other banking institutions as well as financial sponsors to maximise market profile, origination opportunities as well as deal efficiency and collaboration opportunities. Develop a practical understanding of all core systems and procedures within Debt Capital Markets with a view to implement efficiencies and improvements where possible. Contribute to build MUFG’s brand within the PF segments to generate a pipeline of deal flow consistent with our sector vertical approach, target size range and geographic focus. PERFORMANCE AND DUTIES Specifically, you will be responsible for the following: Ensuring that you (i) understand your responsibilities and duties applicable to your role, (ii) comply with MUFG’s policies and procedures and (iii) conduct yourself in a way which is commensurate with MUFG’s values. Contributing to revenue targets and enhancing the worldwide franchise of MUFG. Maintaining and enhancing good working relationships with stakeholders, including business and control/syndicate teams globally. Managing and developing relationships with clients (where applicable) with a view to expand the Department / Unit / International Business enhancing the franchise of MUFG. The role holder will be assessed in accordance with their employing entities performance framework and process with relevant input obtained from the dual hatting entity as relevant. As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and amended in consultation with the role holder. The role holder will carry out other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role as requested by their line manager or Department Head. MANAGING CONFLICTS OF INTEREST You will have responsibilities for both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities. You will be required to perform your duties and responsibilities on an entity neutral basis, without favour. You are required to follow regulatory requirements applicable to ensure each business is appropriately supported and to maintain the legal entity integrity of each of MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities. Working terms are dictated by functional mandates, the terms of the Dual-Hat Arrangement Agreement in place between MUFG and MUS and any other relevant agreements entered into between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities. You have responsibility for identifying and resolving where there may be a difference or conflict in needs between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities, escalating to your manager where required. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Ideally 5 (Associate) -10 (VP) years experience in Banking and Finance. Candidates with 2+ years in Project Finance will be positively received. Degree level education – Undergraduate/Masters Degree from leading universities. CFA, also positively received. Detailed / advanced knowledge of global capital markets products and investors.
