Beacon Legal have partnered with a leading Australian real estate investment business in their search for a new Senior Legal Counsel. They are looking to hire someone at the 10+ PQE level, to be based in their Sydney office.

We’re seeking a senior, commercially astute lawyer to support a high-profile and strategic function within the broader legal team. This role offers the opportunity to work across financial services regulation, corporate governance, board advisory, and regulatory compliance in a dynamic and high-performing environment.

You’ll join a collegiate and driven team, with opportunities to influence the direction of legal, compliance and governance initiatives across the business. The General Counsel is a trusted leader who brings an empowering, collaborative leadership style.

About the role

Deliver strategic, commercial legal advice across financial services law, corporate governance, ASX Listing Rules, capital markets, managed investment schemes, and funds management. Design and implement compliance programs to ensure ongoing adherence to AFSL obligations and evolving ASIC and ASX regulatory standards. Provide trusted legal support to the Board and Board Committees, including preparation of high-quality Board papers and governance materials. Support the preparation and submission of ASIC and ASX regulatory filings and disclosures. Play a central role in corporate reporting alongside Finance and Corporate Affairs teams—particularly on remuneration and annual reporting. Work across a broad and varied legal portfolio, with exposure to enterprise-wide legal matters and strategic initiatives. Provide input and oversight across secretariat functions, including board governance and corporate compliance processes.

What type of person will be successful?

Admitted as a lawyer in Australia. Practising as a senior lawyer for 10+ years, with a background in financial services law, corporate advisory, and governance. Experience gained at a top-tier or leading mid-tier law firm and/or a combination of in-house legal and company secretariat roles. Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to partner effectively across legal, finance, investor relations, risk and audit functions. Commercial mindset and the ability to influence strategic decision-making through clear, practical legal guidance. Highly organised, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
