We deliver safe, compliant, and efficient electrical systems, ensuring reliability and performance for our clients' projects.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in protection systems to strengthen our team. You will focus on the design, calculation and implementation of protective relay schemes to safeguard power systems from faults, ensuring reliability, selectivity, and operational safety. This role involves hands-on protection engineering for HV/LV installations, coordination studies, and integration into projects like data center switchgear networks and substation upgrades. Ideal for an engineer passionate about power system protection and fault analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Design and develop protection schemes for HV/MV substations, transmission, and distribution networks.
2. Prepare and review relay protection settings, logic diagrams, and scheme drawings in compliance with AS/NZS standards.
3. Carry out protection coordination studies, short circuit analysis, load flow, and stability studies using industry software (ETAP, Power Factory, Dig SILENT).
4. Develop detailed specifications for protective relays, CTs/VTs, circuit breakers, and associated control/protection panels.
5. Liaise with utilities, EPC contractors, and OEMs (e.g., Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider, SEL) for protection equipment selection and configuration.
6. Prepare technical documentation including protection reports, single-line diagrams, and functional specifications.
7. Support SCADA and communication system integration for protection and control systems.
8. Provide technical input for tendering and project proposals, including equipment schedules and technical compliance matrices.
9. Review factory acceptance test (FAT) and site acceptance test (SAT) procedures from a protection perspective, ensuring compliance with design intent.
10. Conduct root cause analysis of protection system maloperations and recommend corrective measures.
11. Ensure designs incorporate WHS, isolation, and safe work requirements in protection schemes.
12. Stay current with developments in protection technologies, IEC/IEEE standards, and industry best practices.
Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience
• Expertise in FAT/SAT, HV cable testing (VLF, Tan Delta, PD, Hi Pot), and protection relay testing (primary/secondary injection).
• Ensuring adherence to AS/NZS standards and WHS legislation, with strict application of permit-to-work.
• Skilled in protection coordination, SCADA integration, fault diagnosis, and root cause analysis of HV/MV equipment.
• Ability to stay updated with the latest advancements in electrical engineering technologies and best practices.
• Technical troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Willingness to travel to different project sites.
What We Offer:
• Competitive salary and superannuation.
• Professional development, training, and career progression in a growing team.
