You will be a part of our well respected and valued APNA (Asia Pacific New Zealand and Australia) Legal team involved in multiple different territories, covering established jurisdictions such as Singapore, Hong Kong/Greater China, New Zealand and Australia. Most of your duties will be for Australia.

The successful candidate will have 5-10 years PQE in construction and engineering law, with professional indemnity litigation experience preferred, gained through private practice and/or in-house. You will have the opportunity to further your experience in a wide variety of legal disciplines including contract law, corporate law, dispute resolution, ethics and compliance and insurance law.

The location of the role is Melbourne, Australia , with a focus on Victorian projects, but you will be involved with projects across Australia, New Zealand and Asia as needed.

You will have excellent drafting, communication, collaboration and negotiation skills. You will be a person who can manage your own workload and be self-reliant and a self-starter. You must be equipped with excellent teamworking and interpersonal skills as you will be advising Mott Mac Donald senior staff and working with clients and key stakeholders on major projects that shape communities. You will also be able to:


Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including design consultancy agreements, subconsultancy agreements, joint venture agreements and framework agreements.

Review and advise on compliance and departures against Mott Mac Donald’s governance requirements and assist project teams with procuring the necessary internal approvals.

Confidently negotiate terms and conditions with clients and make recommendations to the business on legal issues, applicable laws and regulations.

Draft legal guidance to raise awareness of contemporary legal issues and new laws.

Advise the business on litigation and insurance matters, which may include liaising with external lawyers and technical experts.

Support and assist all members of the regional Legal team.

Support other parts of the Legal Department including the Ethics & Compliance, Data Protection and Company Secretary teams.

About You

Qualified lawyer with 5-10 years PQE in private practice or in‑house with construction and engineering experience (front end and/or litigation).

Hold or eligible to apply for an Australian Practicing Certificate.

Practical experience in the application of legal concepts and commercial law.

Excellent analytical and presentation skills.

Strong capability to multitask, problem solve, and balance competing priorities.

Confident and effective communicator across diverse stakeholder groups.


Ability to successfully work autonomously and as part of a larger team and with drive.
