We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Commis Cook to join their dedicated kitchen team. In this role, you will provide essential support in the preparation and production of high-quality baked goods and kitchen items, while maintaining the highest standards of quality, consistency, and food safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a keen willingness to learn, and a passion for the culinary arts.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Food Preparation & Kitchen Support:
• Assist in the preparation, measuring, and weighing of ingredients for breads, pastries, and other bakery items according to exact specifications.
• Perform basic food preparation tasks such as chopping, mixing, and shaping doughs under the guidance of senior kitchen staff.
• Support the monitoring of fermentation and proofing processes for optimal results.
Quality & Service Assistance:
• Help maintain consistent quality by following established recipes and procedures diligently.
• Assist with taste-testing preparations and ensure workstation is stocked and organised.
• Support the packaging and presentation of finished products as required.
Equipment & Workspace Maintenance:
• Conduct thorough cleaning and sanitising of kitchen equipment, work areas, utensils, and baking trays to comply with health and safety regulations.
• Assist in the safe operation and basic maintenance of kitchen machinery and tools.
• Ensure proper storage of ingredients and adherence to stock rotation procedures.
Skills & Requirements:
• Proven 2 years’ full-time experience in related position, with a strong interest in baking/pastry. Bakery experience is highly advantageous.
• Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery (Certificate III or above) is preferred.
• A foundational understanding of food preparation techniques and kitchen operations.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as required in a bakery environment.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality food.
• Strong understanding of food safety standards (HACCP) and hygiene best practices.
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods and work in a fast-paced, hot environment.
