Very long established, professionally and strategically managed and well funded, they have an amazing reputation for delivering a wide range of community support services in a geographic area located regionally but within reach of Melbourne. They have a clear vision and mission, whilst their values underpin a culture that is inclusive, welcoming and dedicated. The centre itself offers a wonderful lifestyle and sense of community with none of the stresses of capital city living. You’ll be taking on a position that has been created to provide a high level of support to the CEO. The early focus will be more internal - coming to grips with the service base and the teams through which delivery occurs. It will be looking at where systems, improvements and efficiencies can be gained and working with the CEO on strategy and implementation. Team engagement will be important as will be working on, and influencing, business initiatives that open up new opportunities and deliver great outcomes to the target population. In many organisations this role might be called COO or even Deputy CEO. Sure, some experience in a community based NFP delivering services would be valued BUT our CEO client has asked us to throw the net quite wide. We’re really interested in senior executives who have led and managed change in a demanding environment. You could be out of industry, looking for a new challenge and perhaps the chance to put back in. Similarly, you might be a senior public servant who has run programs but who wants more autonomy and a bigger future. Regardless of your background, we need to see that you can think strategically and put “rubber on the road”. It’s important that you have a track record of getting things done through engaging and influencing teams, achieving efficiencies and delivering meaningful outcomes. You’ll need a style and presence that resonates at all levels of the organisation, from Board level down. Freeing up the CEO to focus on community, government and regulatory stakeholders will be a key measure of success. The organisation employs some 300 people so has some real scale. The role itself calls for a proven senior leader and the salary package on offer reflects that, being in the range $250 to $270,000. I’ve mentioned a regional location. Ideally you’ll be happy to relocate and embed in the community but, again, the CEO is open to a person living within an hour’s commute or who lives on a main trainline with direct access within the hour.
